Roxanne & Dick Simon: 8231 Aberdeen Trail, Northfield, MN 55057

Stepping onto the lawn of the Simon’s household is like stepping into a garden oasis. Flowers gleam at you from every direction in manicured flower beds placed all over their expansive lawn. Trees, a playground and even a pool are surrounded by colorful flowers and rose bushes. In addition, a pond and woods along the perimeter conceal you from any sound of city life at all, creating the perfect country get-away. And no country garden is complete with out freely roaming chickens.  Enjoy this step out of the city as you walk through this place of beauty.

Trondhjem Prayer Garden  7525 Garfield Ave., Lonsdale

Trondhjem’s Norwegian roots are clearly represented in their Prayer Garden with Ole, Lena and Sven roses sitting proudly within. A sense of community is prominent among all the flowers here, as they were all donated by members. Volunteers continue to keep the plants alive and thriving. This serene garden is complete with a bench placed under a trellis, this garden is the perfect place to pray and meditate.

Fran & Ron Sticha  513 Arizona St. SE, Lonsdale

Didn’t think you could squeeze a fabulous designer garden into a city lot? This stop on the tour will have you thinking again! Fran’s city garden will amaze you with its endless show of color, cheerful presentation and detailed arrangements. The “WOW” factor of this vivid garden has been the talk of Lonsdale for years, as it continually shows off an incredible display of blooms each and every season.

Rosanne & Warren Busch  6425 Jennings Ave., Lonsdale

A variety of gardener favorites like roses, hostas and irises will greet you at this garden, as owner Rosanne admits she has never met a flower she hasn’t loved! Describing her style as eclectic, Rosanne said she always seems to find room for one more plant. While visiting, keep an eye out for more than the enticing blooms as Orioles and Hummingbirds also love to visit. Be sure to check out this happy country garden filled with a joyful bouquet of Minnesota’s best.

Maria & Kevin Thoreson  4080 Independence Ave., Webster

The first thing to catch your attention as you drive up to this garden is the impressive boulder retaining wall lining the way. These seasoned gardeners have combined exceptional hardscape materials with lovely, sprawling sunny gardens that are ready to be explored. The prolific seedum is now in bloom, the roses are just opening, and the hostas are large and plentiful. The mix and variety of flowers are a true testament to the commitment of these gardeners, as Maria admits that she never turns down a plant from a friend!

Deone & Mark Ward  8558 40th St. W, Webster

This stop on the garden tour will have you remembering why we love summer so much! A retreat to nature welcomes you to this serene, natural setting in the country, which serves as a backdrop to the stunning display of blossoms in the plentiful gardens. A walkway featuring a variety of hostas, a one-of-a-kind trellis and a stunning water feature will entice you to stay and simply enjoy the gifts nature has to offer. This is country gardening, and living, at its best!

Mary & Greg Laban  7130 40th St. W, Webster

Bring your camera and your notebook. You won’t want to miss the masterful arrangement of perennials at this garden, many of which are unusual and not easy to find at the local nurseries. Another reason: The Labins’ gardens are artfully designed and well thought-out. For instance, instead of planting a traditional rose garden, they incorporated an abundance of radiant roses into the perennial beds, taking your eye on an exciting journey into color and design. With both sun and shade gardens to explore, you’ll be sure to find ideas here that you’ll want to bring home.

Old Historic Trondhjem Church

Built by Norwegian immigrant farmers and placed on a hilltop with views of the rolling countryside, the first church on this spot was constructed in 1878. It was rebuilt and redesigned in 1899, incorporating parts of the first church.
No longer occupied by the Trondhjem Lutheran Church congregation, Old Trondhjem Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is under the care and restoration of the (TCPS) Trondhjem Community Preservation Society.
