Share the faith with others

2 Timothy 2:1–7:  You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus; 2and what you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well. 3Share in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4No one serving in the army gets entangled in everyday affairs; the soldier’s aim is to please the enlisting officer. 5And in the case of an athlete, no one is crowned without competing according to the rules. 6It is the farmer who does the work who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.

There are plenty of them, but this is one passage of scripture that seems new to me.  I’m sure that I read it once, but it is not in the front part of the memory of my brain.  Consider what Paul is saying to Timothy:  Teach what you have learned about the faith to people who will be able to teach others.  (more…)

Inspired word of God

2 Timothy 1:13–14

13Hold to the standard of sound teaching that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 14Guard the good treasure entrusted to you, with the help of the Holy Spirit living in us.

When Martin Luther was being tried for heresy and was being asked to “take back” all of his teachings, he said no.  He said no because of the vow he took when he was ordained a priest of the Church.  He swore that he would be loyal and faithful to the holy scriptures.  Reading this text this morning, that incident in his life immediately comes to my mind, as well as the fact that I took that same vow when I was ordained.
